The course
is accessible to students anywhere via the Internet. Three semesters
of Yiddish education are available from the beginner to the intermediate
levels.
Course Details:
Introduction
to Yiddish Language and Culture I and II are college level courses
geared primarily for college students as well as returning students
of all ages with little or no background in Yiddish (however students
with some background can use this course to burnish their skills)
and will include learning Yiddish conversation, the alef-beys
(Yiddish alphabet), and reading and writing. Students will also
learn Yiddish songs, poetry and literature. Yiddish III is geared
to students with knowledge of basic Yiddish grammar, conversation,
and writing or those who have already completed Yiddish I and
II. The course uses Sheva Zucker’s book, “Yiddish, Introduction
to the Language, Literature & Culture”.
All registered
students will also have access to an on-line Yiddish adjunct course
that provides practice lessons in Yiddish conversation, writing,
and reading through self-quizzes, extra lessons and games.
Instructor:
The course
is taught by Professor Mindelle Wajsman, a professor of Yiddish
for over twenty years at Case Western University, the College
of Jewish Studies and the I.L. Peretz Schools.
Class Meetings:
Registration
is available on a ROLLING BASIS for each course. By filling out
the registration form you immediately hold a space in the course

Tuition:
The Center
has subsidized tuition enabling students to take the course at
a discount from standard college rates. Limited tuition subsidies
may be available in special cases. The course tuition is $150
per semester, plus books.
