GUAVA RUGELACH FESTIVAL The Guava Rugelach Festival is a community-wide music festival celebrating the cultural diversity of Miami's unique Jewish population, uniting the Community through a shared experience of its sounds and
informal engagement opportunities with Festival performers.
WHAT: The Guava Rugelach Festival aims to showcase what it sounds like when Jews from different corners settle together under palm trees in a melting pot positioned along the Atlantic Ocean.
Tickets for the Festival Concert will be accessibly priced at $18 a ticket, $5 for kids 4 to 12, and free admission for lap-sitters 3 and under. Festival artists for the 2nd Annual Guava Rugelach Festival include Ladino singer, Susana Behar; Alejandra Czarny performing Yiddish songs; and Harmonic Motion, a duo exploring Middle Eastern Sephardic musical traditions and instruments. Pending are three other acts including an Israeli act, a Klezmer band, and a community chorus.
WHEN: Guava Rugelach will occupy the last two weeks of August with the Festival Concert taking place Labor Day weekend on Sunday, August 31, 2008 from 3pm to 6pm, filling the lull in what is an otherwise quiet time in Miami.
WHERE: The central event, the Festival Concert will take place at Temple Israel's historic site in downtown Miami, residency events will take place throughout Miami-Dade County.
